Bio
Marbella Hernandez (she/her), born in 2004 and raised in Houston, Texas, is a Dallas–based visual artist whose work bridges the gap between everyday urban life and pop culture. After relocating to the DFW metroplex in 2022, she started working on many series of works, all based around her experiences growing up in the 2000s and 2010s as a Houstonian. Her figurative work is interesting, all telling narratives that are easily digestible, but dive deeper into topics like socio-economics, language, sexuality, and protest.
Artist Statement
"Within my body of work, I am dedicated to exploring the intricate balance and connection between urban art and fine art. I produce art with a desire to challenge traditional boundaries seen in the fine art space, infusing each piece with a daring sense of boldness. I strive to create a dialogue between the alternative and the conventional, inviting viewers to engage with art that is both non-conformist and figurative. The textures and layers of my mixed-media approach reflect the complexity and dynamism of urban environments, while simultaneously embracing the elegance and finesse intrinsic to fine art. I am inspired by the spaces in which I grew up, an area in Houston, Texas filled with graffiti and street art, where the raw and the refined coexisted in harmony. Through my paintings, I seek to capture the essence of this coexistence, offering a lighthearted yet profound commentary on the world around us. My art is an invitation to experience the unexpected and to find beauty in the juxtaposition of disparate elements. Ultimately, my work is a celebration of creativity without limits, a testament to the power of art to transcend boundaries, with an ultimate goal to resonate with the human spirit in an unapologetically brazen and audacious way." - Marbella Hernandez
